WHAT IS A BURIAL VAULT | RESISTING LOADS | LINED AND SEALED | 3 LEVELS OF PROTECTION | VAULT SELECTIONS
Resisting Loads
Several types of loads weigh upon a burial vault. Understanding each loads impact reinforces the importance of a high quality lined burial vault to protecting a casket and your loved one.

STATIC LOAD
A static load is the weight of the earth straight above a burial vault. Today’s average grave supports 18 inches of earth, a static load of close to 4,000 lbs.

DYNAMIC LOAD
Varying in intensity, a dynamic load is transferred to a burial vault as large and heavy cemetery equipment passes over the grave (e.g. a 25,000 lb backhoe).

IMPACT LOAD
A dense force sent by a mechanical tamper or a dropped backhoe bucket, an impact load can travel through soil and damage the burial vault cover.
